Fallen & Storm-Damaged Tree Removal
A fallen tree can leave an entrance unusable, damage a boundary or remain partly suspended against another tree. Storm-damaged timber is not necessarily stable simply because some of it has reached the ground. AS Arboriculture provides fallen tree removal and storm damage clearance, including access routes, roads and footpaths. Keep away from moving roots, hanging branches and timber resting on structures; do not begin cutting to test whether it will shift.
Our emergency tree service covers 24/7 call-outs where urgent assistance is needed. If there is immediate danger to life, traffic or electricity infrastructure, contact the appropriate emergency service or asset operator as well. Tree clearance must follow a safe plan, not an attempt to reopen access at any cost.
For shared premises, identify who controls the affected area and can authorise the clearance. Neighbours, managing agents and occupiers may need the same factual account of what has happened. Keep that communication distinct from assumptions about blame or insurance liability, which are not settled by the physical position of the fallen timber.
Assessing the scene before clearing a route
A fallen stem may still be connected to a lifting root plate or held under tension by branches and neighbouring trees. Cutting one piece can change the support of another. We consider the whole scene, nearby people and the practical working area before deciding how material can be removed. Explain whether the tree blocks the only entrance, affects a public path or rests on a vehicle or building. Photographs taken from a safe distance are useful, but do not walk beneath suspended timber or enter a damaged structure to obtain a better view.
Storm damage that remains above ground
A broken crown can leave hanging limbs or an unstable standing stem after the main storm has passed. Emergency felling or controlled dismantling may be appropriate where assessed instability requires removal. Access from a MEWP, rigging or other suitable methods depends on the remaining structure and surrounding space. Dead or cracked timber cannot automatically provide dependable climbing or lowering anchors. We identify the intended operation rather than describe every storm job as a simple fell. Trees alongside the affected specimen may also require attention where impacts or entangled branches change the situation.
Insurers, photographs and incident records
We can provide incident reporting and photographic documentation and liaise with insurers or loss adjusters about the agreed tree work. The insurer decides policy cover and claim requirements; a contractor cannot promise that clearance will be paid for. Where safe and practicable, contact the insurer before non-urgent removal and preserve useful evidence. Record when the damage occurred and which structures or access areas are affected. Documentation should distinguish the tree clearance scope from building repair, vehicle recovery or other specialist work, avoiding assumptions that one quotation resolves every part of a claim.
Temporary boundaries and protected trees
Emergency fencing or temporary safety measures can be considered where a damaged boundary or exposed area needs an interim arrangement. These measures do not certify a wider site as safe. Protected-tree exceptions are limited to the applicable circumstances, with notice and evidence requirements explained in official guidance. A storm does not create blanket permission to remove every protected tree nearby. We can assist with TPO and conservation-area questions while keeping urgent necessary work distinct from later planned operations. Public routes and roads may also need coordination with the responsible authority before access is reopened.
Waste handling and recovery of the space
After the immediate clearance, remaining stumps, disturbed ground and lost screening may need a separate plan. Stump grinding and replanting options can be discussed around access, services and intended use. Suitable timber and green waste are recycled where possible, with the agreed material handling recorded. Ground reinstatement and repairs are not automatically included in tree removal. For non-urgent recovery work, we offer free site visits and written estimates. Explain the desired end condition so the job can progress from managing the damaged timber to restoring an understood, usable area without undefined extra tasks.
Fallen Tree Removal: questions
Not necessarily. Roots, supporting branches and bent timber can move when cut. Keep clear and seek an assessed removal method rather than assume ground contact has removed the hazard.
We can provide photographs and incident information for the agreed work and liaise with insurers or loss adjusters. Cover and reimbursement remain decisions for the insurer under the policy.
No. Replanting and stump treatment are later options that should be specified separately. The urgent clearance scope may be limited to the timber necessary to address the immediate obstruction or hazard.
