Driveway Cleaning

A driveway collects more than marks from parked vehicles. Leaves settle into joints, moss develops in shaded corners and loose soil travels onto the surface from neighbouring beds. AS Arboriculture offers driveway cleaning, with the proposed treatment based on the material and its condition. Tell us whether the drive is block paved, concrete or tarmac, and whether your main concern is general dirt, vegetation or a particular stained area. These details help separate routine cleaning from a repair requirement.

A good result begins with realistic expectations. Cleaning does not replace broken paving, correct a sunken section or cure a drainage defect. We discuss the areas to include and the condition you want afterwards, then provide a free written estimate. You do not need to guess the equipment or treatment before requesting a visit.

Tell us if the drive is used for accessible parking or regular care visits. Those movements should be considered before a cleaning appointment is agreed, with a suitable alternative route or parking arrangement discussed where the working area would otherwise obstruct essential access.

Checking block paving before cleaning

Block paving has individual units and joints that need consideration together. Loose blocks, damaged edges and uneven settlement should be identified before the cleaning scope is agreed. Established weeds may occupy joints as well as the margins beside planting. Removing visible growth is different from renewing the paving construction underneath. Patio re-grouting and driveway joint reinstatement are different tasks; joint re-sanding is not included in this driveway-cleaning service. Ask about the actual finish required rather than assuming every type of joint treatment is included. Any separate remedial work should be recorded clearly.

Tarmac and concrete need different decisions

A continuous surface can still have cracks, worn patches and vulnerable edges. Describe previous repairs, coatings or sealants when enquiring so those details can be considered. Concrete and tarmac are not interchangeable materials, and a method suitable for one area may be unsuitable for another. Oil marks or other stains may not disappear completely, particularly where material has penetrated the surface. The condition is assessed before promises about appearance are made. Where deterioration is the main concern, cleaning should not be presented as resurfacing or structural restoration.

Managing moss, weeds and nearby trees

Shaded drives beneath trees can stay damp after surrounding areas have dried. Leaf litter and soil lodged around edges create opportunities for moss and weeds, but removing a tree solely to avoid sweeping is rarely a proportionate starting point. Consider practical surface care first. Where branches conflict with a building, a separate pruning assessment may be useful. Weed control can be discussed for hard surfaces without assuming that every species receives the same treatment. We do not offer Japanese knotweed treatment through this service, and persistent unfamiliar growth should be identified before deciding what to do.

Access, drainage and occupied properties

Parked cars, pedestrians and deliveries need a plan while the drive is being cleaned. Let us know if the entrance is shared, if it is the only access to the house or if a neighbouring property drains across it. Identify gullies and where water normally travels; cleaning is not permission to discharge material into an unsuitable place. Pets and items stored beside the drive should also be considered. For landlords or managed premises, confirm who can authorise the work and whether occupants need advance arrangements for parking.

An enquiry that defines the whole area

Photographs showing the complete drive and close views of the concern are more useful than a single image of one stain. Include your postcode, approximate layout, surface type and any narrow access. If patio cleaning or gutter cleaning is also needed, mention those tasks so they can be scoped separately and ordered sensibly. We agree debris handling and any limitations before work starts. After cleaning, routine removal of fallen leaves can help keep the surface manageable, but no visit prevents every future deposit or permanently stops moss returning.

Driveway Cleaning: questions

No. Settlement, failed edges and structural defects need their own assessment. Cleaning addresses agreed surface deposits; it is not a replacement for repairing the drive.
